Located just twenty miles south of Birmingham, Alabama, Oak Mountain State Park is a public recreation area. Peavine Falls Trail

Located within the Oak Mountain State Park, Peavine Falls is a 65 foot tall waterfall. It is a popular spot among locals and visitors. It can be reached in under half a mile from the South Trailhead.

Peavine Falls is a spring fed waterfall. Its waters flow varies depending on the season. The best time to visit is after a good rain. You can also find a nice pool of water at the bottom of the falls. The water flow is best in the winter months, but it may be trickling during the summer months.

Peavine Falls is part of Oak Mountain State Park, which is the largest state park in Alabama. There are a number of hiking trails in the area. Some of the trails are short and others are long and difficult.

Fishing Center

Located on the back gate of Oak Mountain State Park, the Fishing Center is open year-round. Fishing enthusiasts can rent flat-bottomed boats and electric trolling motors. You can also purchase bait at the Fishing Center Store. There are two 85-acre lakes in the park, both of which are stocked with bluegill and bass.

A new 200-foot fishing pier was built to accommodate special-needs students, and is compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines. The fishing pier is open five days a week. Guests can learn about wildlife and the habitats of native species. The center is open 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday through Saturday, and 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

There are ten cabins available for rent. Each cabin is equipped with one bath and central heat. These cabins have a maximum capacity of six people. You can rent a cabin up to a year in advance. You can also rent pedal boats. You can also purchase fishing equipment, bait, and fishing licenses at the Park Office. 

Lakes

Located approximately 20 miles from Birmingham, Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, AL offers visitors a range of activities for both families and individuals. The park features two lakes and over 50 miles of hiking and biking trails.

The state park is open seven days a week from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm. The entrance fee is $5.

Visitors can also rent a boat at the marina for a day of fun. A variety of watercraft rentals are available including canoes, kayaks and stand up paddleboards. The park also offers an Aquapark, an inflatable obstacle course.

Visitors to the park can also take a self-guided tour of the Alabama Wildlife Center. The center rehabilitates injured birds and hawks. It has more than 2,500 injured animals each year. It is also home to a teaching laboratory and meeting room. A great place to also visit is Avondale Park.

Day-use activities

Located on an ancient sandstone ridge, Oak Mountain State Park is the largest state park in Alabama. This public recreation area covers nearly 10,000 acres and offers the best outdoor activities.

The park offers over 50 miles of hiking trails. The trails vary in elevation and terrain. Some of the trails feature beautiful green scenery. The trails are perfect for fitness and fun.

Another popular attraction is the Oak Mountain Interpretive Center. This 2500 square foot interactive exhibit space includes a meeting room, teaching laboratory, and demonstration farm. Visitors can also take a self-guided tour of the center’s wildlife rehabilitation center. The center cares for local bird species and other injured animals.

The park’s lakes are stocked with largemouth bass, bream, and crappie. The lakes also have public swimming beaches. Visitors can rent boats and paddle boats.

Accessibility

Located in Pelham, AL, Oak Mountain State Park offers a wide variety of recreational activities. It is a beautiful spot for hiking, biking, canoeing, horseback riding, and camping.
