Security
Located south of the Norfolk Southern and CSX rail lines, Railroad Park is an 19-acre park in downtown Birmingham, Alabama. It was designed by landscape architect Tom Leader. It features a series of check dams, terraced seating, two lakes, a stream, and a bowl-shaped sloped area for a future stage. The park also includes nine emergency boxes and 31 security cameras. The park is monitored 24 hours a day by security personnel on patrol.
On Easter Sunday, 2012, several hundred teens gathered in the park. A fight erupted, and gunshots were fired nearby. The park was temporarily cleared. However, a 15-year-old boy was killed and four others were arrested. This renewed debate about the safety of the park.
